21st Century Journalism XXIII: The Reporters' Cookbook
The Reporters' Cookbook "is for reporters to share code, examples, tutorials and other bits of information related to the practice of journalism, especially computer-assisted reporting."The site is a wiki, meaning it can be edited by anyone who registers. Sections of content include:
- Bits of useful code
Perl scripts, Python scripts, VBA code, Firefox goodies, and (assuming contributions are forthcoming) SQL - Databases
- Excel spreadsheets
- Hardware (PCs, scanners, tape recorders, PDAs)
- Mapping
- Accessing and using public records
- Statistics and statistics software
- Computer software and Web tools
- Applications for placing content on the Web
- Social network analysis
- Writing and editing tips
- Subscribing to the "recent changes" page in your favorite RSS reader. The RSS feed will notify you of all updates and show you what they were.
- Adding pages that you are particularly interested in, to your personal "watchlist" (one of the wiki tools accessed via the BluWiki Toolbox, which appears at the bottom of each of the Cookbook pages).
