Colgate's Reuben Mark on Leadership
Among the best articles Knowledge@Wharton has published recently is a report on a speech about leadership delivered by Reuben Mark, Colgate-Palmolive's recently retired CEO (after a tenure of 23 years).Mark's ideas reflect his accumulated experience and his humane view of how to lead a business organization. He emphasizes the importance of continuous improvement and of staying focused on products "in which the company can maintain a strong position." He also advises that effective leaders nurture a caring internal environment.
